Art Competition in four primary
schools in Vientiane Municipality

In its efforts to increase awareness about fire risks and
road safety in urban Lao, the LUDMP organized an Art Competition in four
primary schools in Vientiane municipality on 10 May 2003. The National Disaster
Management Office (NDMO) in collaboration with Fire department and Traffic Police
organized the Art Competition among the students of grade 3 to 5 in selected
primary schools. H.E Laoly FAYPHENGYOA, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Labor
& Social Welfare, H.E Inkham INTHAMALY Director General of the Cabinet
Office of the Ministry of National Security, Mr. Duangta BOUNLAVONG Director of
the Cabinet Office of the Ministry of Education and also Deputy Director of Fire
Police Department Mr. Sihoun SITHILUEXAY, Director of Vientiane Municipality
Education Office, Director of Mass Media
Department of Information
& Cultural and the Directors of all the four Primary Schools attended
the opening ceremony.
A total of 220 students from the four primary schools,
viz. Na Hai Deo, Sisavath, Sidamduan and Malasine, participated in the Art
Competition. The main objective of the Competition was to increase public awareness
urban fire & road safety. The staff of the Fire Department and Traffic
Police presented the fire risks and road safety issues All the drawings were submitted
to the NDMO for further screening.
Representatives of NDMO, Fire Department, Traffic Police Department,
teachers of the four schools reviewed all the drawings and finally selected the
best drawings for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th
prize.
Overall, the participating students understood the issues
of fire and road safety and depicted it through their drawings and some also wrote
slogans on them. The winners were given prize on the ASEAN
Disaster Day on 26 June 2003.
